Si se puede!

Today is our first day in the beautiful Salt Lake City. Around eleven, I decided to walk to the library and go monologue hunting. I walked to the City Library, which is gorgeous by the way, only to find out that it didn't open for another hour and a half. I wandered the streets a little, and came upon an immigration rally. People were holiding signs saying things like "We are all immigrants" and "Yes We Can! The Workers Struggle Has No Borders" and various phrases about supporting families and positive reform. People had American flags and families were gathered. Everyone was wearing white, and, coincidentally, so was I. They began marching. I was so inspired by the collaboration and large gathering in effort for change, that I decided to join. I marched with them to the Utah capitol building, while everyone shouted "Si si puede!", which means "Yes We Can!". Everyone was happy and excited. There no violence or anger, just people looking for a better life. I returned to the Carlton Hotel triumphant. It was wonderful to know that I had been a part of something bigger than me. I wonder if Dr. Martin Luther King's marches were anything like this. There were thousands of people, and though I couldn't directly relate to their struggles, I hope I helped in some small way.
